Sana’a, Yemen, 11 July 2016 –  Today, on World Population Day, UNFPA, the United Nations Population is highlighting the situation of teenage girls in Yemen and around the world; and the importance of empowering them and allowing them to participate in the development of their societies. 
 

BAITADI — Whenever parents take a cheena (a birth chart made as per the Hindu astrological calendar) of their children to Dev Dutta Bhatta, at first glance the astrologer-cum-priest makes sure he has his eyes on the birth year. “Any oversight on my part can destroy the lives of adolescent girls,” says the 66-year-old from far-western Nepal dressed in the traditional clothes – a cream kurta suruwal (a collarless shirt and trousers) and a black peaked Nepali cap and singing Hindu hymns.

The new development agenda and evolving funding dynamic call for new thinking, new partnerships and new ways of doing business. While our current financial situation, at least for now, may not allow us to do more, we can endeavour to do better—and we will.

In 2015, we sought ways to secure more predictable and stable funding while continuing efforts towards innovation, both in our operations and programme delivery, as a means of achieving greater efficiency, greater results and greater impact.

Kabul, 05 September, 2016. Deputy Ministry of Youth Affairs and Ministry of Women Affairs, with the Technical Support of UNFPA organized a One-Day consensus-building workshop for the endorsement of the National Action Plan for Elimination of Early and Child Marriage in Afghanistan. The workshop took place at the GIMC.

The Qualitative Study on Assessing Supply Side Constraints Affecting the Quality of Adolescent Friendly Health Services and the Barriers for Service Utilization in Nepal

This study explores the supply and demand side barriers impacting on access to and utilization of adolescent-friendly health services (AFHS) by adolescent boys and girls aged 10-19 years across diverse socio-cultural and geographical settings in Nepal. This is a qualitative study conducted in 12 districts of the country. It was carried out under the leadership of the Family Health Division with technical and financial support of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. An international consultant supported by UNICEF provided technical inputs while producing this report.

 

Saba’s smile can brighten a whole room, or the caravan that she shares with her family in Zaatari camp for refugees in Jordan. The 16 year old dynamic Syrian young woman lives in the camp with her mother and four siblings. Her father is in Syria.
