Egypt has been in a state of transition, with many cabinet reshuffles and ministerial reorganizations. The political instability has led to economic hardship that continues to hamper development, with a particular impact on the labour market. The unemployment rate in 2012 was 12.6 per cent. However, the rate was higher among women (24.1 per cent) than men (9.2 per cent). The unemployment rate among young people aged 15-24 is 30 per cent.

The participation of the largest ever quota of youth and adults at such an event in Myanmar will help encourage debate on the challenges and barriers that youth and women face in the country in accessing sexual and reproductive health services and information. This will also give them confidence to speak out about their experiences and exchange best practices and lessons learned with other countries in the region.

Love9 in a Nutshell

Love9 is the brand new project from BBC Media Action on TV, on Radio and online. It’s all about you, our youth audiences. And of course, it’s about LOVE a subject we know is very important to you all! The programmes and discussions will be made and hosted by our own youth teams, speaking with you as peers about your lives and the situations you face every day, with a particular focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights.

The 2016 theme for International Women's Day 2016 is "Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step it Up for Gender Equality."

About us

The United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled.

UNFPA expands the possibilities for women and young people to lead healthy and productive lives.

Since UNFPA started working in Cambodia in 1993, the maternal mortality ratio has reduced by almost two-thirds; women are better able to plan when to have children – and how many; young people are more connected and empowered than ever before.
